A treat for your nose and tummy

I must say there is nothing better than the smell of freshly baked bread. The past few months I have been experimenting with homemade breads and wanted to share what is probably the easiest and quickest way to have your home smelling so good that neighbors may begin to flock to your front door wanting a slice. 

No-knead Artisan Bread:

  • 3 cups bread flour (I use half whole wheat and half all-purpose)
  • 1 1/2 tsp instant yeast granules
  • 1 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm tap water
  • 1 1/2 tbsp olive oil or flavored oil
  • 1-2 tbsp any dried seasoning (optional)

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In a large mixing bowl combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add the warm water, olive oil, and dried seasonings, stirring until blended. Dough will be shaggy and sticky. Cover the bowl with lid or dish towels and let rest for 2 hours at room temperature (dough will have almost doubled). The dough is ready when the surface is dotted with bubbles.

Flour your work surface and place dough on it. Sprinkle dough with a little more flour and fold dough over on itself 3 or 4 times. Place in a covered baking dish (love my Pampered Chef DCB) and let stand on counter for another 2 hours to rise.

When ready, brush with an egg wash and bake, covered, for 30 minutes. Remove lid and bake for another 5-10 minutes until golden brown.
