Ripe for the pickin’

What better to do this time of year than go apple picking? We took a weekend trip to visit our friends, John and Lauren, in their new home in Hamilton, VA. The weather and surroundings were beautiful, and the company even sweeter. While the guys went golfing Lauren and I took the kids apple picking. A couple buckets of apples later we were back at home devouring the delicious apple pie Lauren made.

Now that I’m back home I have been thinking of all the great ways we can eat apples.

  • I frequently bake them or saute them in a little brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter.
  • Slice them and eat on a cheddar and turkey sandwich or in a salad.
  • Grandma Opel’s Apple Pie
  • Mom’s Apple Crisp
  • Puree them for some yummy homemade applesauce for Lola.

Do you have any wonderful apple recipes? Please share!

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN!
